Abnormal Uterine Bleeding (Metrorrhagia).

Based on the history and the age group of the patient, the doctor will investigate several causes of abnormal uterine bleeding. Such abnormal uterine bleeding causes are:

  • Causes related to pregnancy. (Bleeding as a result of threatened or inevitable miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy).
  • Problems linked to some birth control methods, such as an intrauterine device (IUD) or birth control pills
  • Uterine fibroids
  • Infection of the uterus or cervix
  • Problems with blood clotting
  • Chronic medical conditions (i.e, hyperthyroidism and diabetes)
  • Certain types of cancer, such as cancer of the uterus, cervix, or vagina
